Raghunath Manet Quartet
Raghunat Manet veena
Murugan Rajamaickam Indian perc
Dominique Di Piazza b
Jean My Truong d
The founder of Indian jazz, a virtuoso of veena, the most complicated instrument of Indian music, and a perfect dancer: Raghunath Manet. An admirable musician and a fascinating art event. We would like to thank FRENCH CULTURAL CENTER and EADS for supporting this concert.
On his stage, while preserving its strong character, traditional Indian music is blended with jazz. So far he has brought together veena with vocals, rhythmic sounds, flute, tambur, keyboard, guitar, bass, saxophone, and percussions and created the Indian jazz, Rinkara. He gave fascinating concerts with Archie Sheep, Michel Portal, Didier Lockwood, and Carolyn Carlson, in which he showed his mastery in dancing as well. The space of freedom that he created by using jazz themes in his own style, assured him a highly respected place in his country and opened the doors of international festivals.
Raghunath Manet was born in Pondicherry, and he has been playing veena and dancing since his childhood. In 1985 he won Veena Golden Medal and the first prize. Manet recorded an anthology of 15 CDs with the greatest percussionists of India and continues to compose with them.
