Turkish Harmony Stars Orchestra, which was established within the body of Harmonic Band Command of the Turkish Armed Forces in 2006 gave memorable concerts at the International Ankara Jazz Festival in 2007 and 2008. They will play at the 16th International Ankara Jazz Festival with the accompaniment of the virtuoso soloist Melis Sökmen and the conductor Bnd.Capt. Tarık Tal. With its repertoire that appeals to listeners from all ages, TURKAY successfully represents our country and the Turkish Armed Forces at various festivals and organizations in and abroad.
Captain Tal commenced his education in music in the Armed Forces Non-Commissioned Officer High School for Military Band and then finished the Band Mastership Department of the Hacettepe University Composition Main Branch of Art of in 1999. Tal continued his musical education in the composition department of the same university. As one of the members of the famous Orfeon Chamber Choir, he successfully represented our country at numerous festivals, concerts and organizations in and abroad between 2001 and 2010. He still continues his modern music studies with Ertuğrul Oğuz Fırat and he has been the conductor of Turkish Harmony Stars since 2010.
Melis Sökmen was born in Ankara and has started his professional musical career with Group Lokomotif in 1986. She has participated many festivals in Turkey and abroad. Besides jazz music, Sökmen also vocalizes R&B, blues, soul, latin, latin-jazz and pop. Her musical career still continues with an extended repertoire.
