Maria João and Mário Laginha are meeting the festival audience with their last album project Chocolate that includes their original songs and interpretations of jazz standards in João and Laginha's own style.
Portuguese jazz vocal Maria João started her musical life in 1982, in the Jazz School of the Hot Club and joined the Big Band of the school. Soon she started to work with her own group. She had an outstanding performance in the International Jazz Festival of Cascais in 1984. In July she won the first prize for the best group at the competition at the International Jazz Festival of San Sebastian. Concerts in Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Holland, Austria, Germany and Switzerland followed. She was invited guest during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. João and Laginha played in the International Festivals of Montreux, Den Hague, Malaga and Leipzig. Maria João and Mário Laginha promise to surprise the audience once again with their 12th album 'Chocolate'.
